NB. This ring is designed as an “occasional dress ring”. Ebony is a naturally black wood, and is also now a controlled/restricted wood, we have created pieces incorporating this material over the years, and on these occasions we have only used recycled wood from articles such as; 1930’s silver tea/coffee service/piano keys etc.

As a wood we recommend that you do not wash your hands with the ring on, as water caught behind the wood against the finger would be detrimental to the life of the wood, if this unavoidable, dry off the ring thoroughly with tissue/paper towel. Ebony is naturally quite an oily wood, the araldite glue used to fix it to the platinum is the same as that used for pearls in the jewellery industry, and we would therefore normally expect it to last approximately 5-7 years before the wood/glue security needs to be checked. This would be a gradual process whereby you will notice the wood gradually rising from its flush position, in this situation you can pop into any jewellers and they can remove the old glue, and re-glue it as a relatively simple process, the process of removing the old glue can take upto 24 hours of soaking in Nitro Mors (yellow tin) solution first, then the new glue needs another 24 hours to harden properly before wearing again. In hotter/more humid climates this time line could possibly be reduced, also if you have sweaty hands due to a medical condition or again in humid climates.
